Do You Have a Plan?
You know what they say- if you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail!
One of the best ways to stick to a healthy eating plan is through meal prepping. Meal prepping is convenient, efficient, reduces waste, and reduces temptation to eat outside of your plan. As a certified Health Coach, I encourage all of my clients to plan their meals out for the week (at least on the weekdays) and have a few meals in their fridge and/or freezer at all times for emergencies.
4 Benefits of Meal Prepping
Here’s my top reasons why you should consider making meal prep a part of your weekly routine.
1) Convenience
There is nothing worse than coming home from a long day of work and wondering, “what should I eat for dinner?” If you are waiting until you’re hungry to choose your meal, you are waiting too long and you’ll likely make less nutritious choices.
2) Time efficient
As mentioned above, cooking every day is really time consuming and also requires washing a LOT of dishes each night. Cooking in batches allows you to minimize the time spent cooking + washing dishes and more time eating + enjoying your life!
3) Reduce waste
The average household wastes 30% of the groceries they purchase. When you go to the store with a plan, you know how you’re going to use the items. Every item in your fridge serves a purpose, and you’re less likely to waste food.
4) Reduce temptation
When you’re hungry and your blood sugar drops, you’re more likely to reach for something less healthy (this is how the fast food industry got so big!). When you have meals ready to go, you don’t have to think about what you’re going to eat, and you can stay on top of your blood sugar drops and eat as SOON as hunger strikes.
