December Guest Blogger: Erin Wathen

In this last installment of guest bloggers for the December Happy Healthy Holidays series, please welcome my friend, Erin Wathen!

I met Erin at the Lewis Howes Summit of Greatness in October and was completely in awe of her! She is all about helping people figure out why their diets are not working. As a holistic health coach, she wants to help you determine the emotional reasons behind you’re eating habits. Erin also just released a book called “Why Can’t I Stick to My Diet?”. It is available on Amazon here and has a 5 star rating!

Make sure you check out Erin’s website at https://erinwathenwellness.com/  and her Instagram to learn more about the amazing work she is doing to help people build healthier lives.

Now, let’s find out more about Erin!

Erin Wathen

Welcome to the Happy, Healthy Holidays series! Please tell us about yourself.

I am a Holistic Health and Life Coach, Food Addiction Counselor and author of “Why Can’t I Stick To My Diet?”. I have two kids, two pets and a husband as well :)

What sparked your healthy lifestyle journey?

A desire to understand the power of nutrition vs. exercise. I was told our weight was calories in and calories out. Turns out there is much more to it than that.

Why are you passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle?

Life is so much better when we don’t hide in food. Many of us look at food as our friend, entertainment or the enemy. It isn’t good or bad, it is necessary for our existence. Currently, most of America has a diet that makes being food neutral as the chemicals in the food set off a reaction with our hormones next to impossible.

What is your best tip for maintaining your healthy lifestyle during the holiday season?

Decide on what you want ahead of time and make a plan to get there vs. having the Holidays hit you.

For example, how do you want to feel and look on January 2nd? Are your choices getting you closer or further apart from your goal? This is something we can ask when we see a giant plate of cookies in the break room at 3pm and they seem harmless.

It’s really important AND powerful to make that mental shift.

What advice would you share for those looking to lead a healthier lifestyle

Our feelings shouldn’t be intertwined with food in either direction. The idea of lunch shouldn’t get you excited in the same way as seeing a friend at the lunch. Being away, having a bad day at work and going to a carton of ice cream to numb is ineffective.

Now we have:

A) the emotional reaction to ice cream

B) a ton of chemicals triggering hormones to overload our body

C) a problem with work that hasn’t been resolved

Food and our feelings are both part of life, they don’t have to be connected to manage our lives.
