Here’s Why You NEED to Learn to Cook

Every single human on this planet needs to eat to live. We all need to know how to nourish our bodies and how to put which nutrients in our bodies and when. We thrive when we have enough protein and we can get drained when we don't have enough carbohydrates. Most people grow up being taught how to cook by their grandmother's, mothers, fathers and even their siblings. Some people don't have that luxury.

Either way, cooking is a vital life skill that everyone can learn. You can learn to make your favorite meals, and you can learn how to cook brand new foods such as crispy chicken, szechuan style or Vietnamese Summer Rolls. It's always nice to go out to eat, or to buy pre-cooked meals and snacks from the grocery store, but not everybody has the budget to do that every single day.

In addition to saving money, here are my top 5 reasons you NEED to learn how to cook:

  1. You can connect with others: One of the best reasons to learn to cook is because you can cook for yourself and the people that you love. Most of the time, our memories are accented with food at special events, such as at gatherings, parties and dinners. If you have the power to cook, then you have the power to connect with other people. Everyone looks forward to a decent meal, and if you’re cooking for those that you love, they will look forward to sharing that meal with you.

  2. You can learn to cook anything: If you love Japanese cuisine, you can master sushi. If you love Mexican food, you can master the perfect fajita seasoning with just the right level of spice. No matter what cuisine you think of, if you love to eat it when you are at a restaurant, you can learn to make it at home. The best thing to remember before you feel overwhelmed at the idea of cooking, is to start with simple recipes. You can always increase the difficulty level over time as you gain more cooking confidence.

  3. It can save you money: The cost of living is going up and eating out is becoming very expensive. So many people spend more money in restaurants and bars every week than they do on their grocery shopping. While Uber and DoorDash are very handy for those days when you can't be bothered to cook, not everyone can afford that everyday. When you learn to cook, you’ll be surprised at how much money you can save and how you can use and repurpose ingredients in different meals.

  4. It can save you time: Can you really wait around an hour for a delivery of a meal? You could have whipped up the same meal in 20 minutes. With the right preparation and an awesome Meal Plan, cooking meals at home can save more time than ordering food or getting take out.

  5. You know exactly what's in your food: Many times, restaurants will use more fat and salts than you may like, have smaller portions than you would prefer, or make meals with ingredients you don’t enjoy. When you cook at home, you can use the ingredients that you like and you know exactly what's going into your food. This way, you can nourish your body with the ingredients and meals that you enjoy, and help you to achieve your health goals.

Knowing how to cook your own food can have a massive impact on your health, your budget, and your relationships. Start implementing the tips above to start cooking healthy and delicious food everyday.
